FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Lighting i95-P

What is industrial lighting for ESD workstations and which industries require these specialized illumination systems?

Industrial lighting for ESD workstations comprises specialized luminaires designed to provide adequate illumination while maintaining electrostatic discharge protection in electronics manufacturing environments. These lighting systems serve semiconductor fabrication facilities, electronics assembly operations, cleanroom environments, and precision instrument manufacturing where static-sensitive devices require handling under controlled conditions. The Glamox i95 P series represents professional-grade ESD-safe lighting that integrates seamlessly with antistatic workstation infrastructure to ensure DIN EN 61340-5-1 compliance throughout the workspace.

What are the critical technical selection criteria for ESD-safe industrial lighting systems?

ESD-safe industrial lighting selection requires evaluating luminous efficacy measured in lumens per watt, color temperature typically ranging from 4000K to 6500K for precision work, and color rendering index above Ra 80 for accurate component identification. The lighting system must demonstrate surface resistance values within the ESD-safe range of 10^6 to 10^12 ohms when measured according to IEC 61340-2-3 standards. Power consumption, mounting configurations for different workstation types, and electromagnetic interference characteristics also determine suitability for specific electronics manufacturing applications requiring static control.

Which international standards and certifications apply to ESD lighting systems in industrial environments?

ESD lighting systems must comply with DIN EN 61340-5-1 for electrostatic discharge control in manufacturing environments and IEC 61340-2-3 for surface resistance measurement protocols. Additional applicable standards include EN 12464-1 for workplace lighting requirements, IEC 60598-1 for general luminaire safety, and ISO 14644 for cleanroom applications where ESD lighting is installed. ATEX certification may be required for installations in potentially explosive atmospheres, while EMC compliance according to EN 61000 series ensures the lighting system does not interfere with sensitive electronic equipment or measurement instruments.

What are the main differences between ESD lighting variants like the Glamox i95 P series models?

The Glamox i95 P series variations differ primarily in light output levels measured in lumens, physical dimensions for different mounting applications, and power consumption ratings typically ranging from 15W to 45W per fixture. Different models offer varying beam angles from narrow spot to wide flood distribution, color temperature options between 4000K and 6500K, and mounting configurations including pendant, surface, and track-mounted versions. Advanced variants may include dimming capabilities, wireless control integration, and enhanced ESD protection features with lower surface resistance values for critical applications requiring stringent static control.

What are the installation requirements and system compatibility considerations for ESD lighting systems?

ESD lighting installation requires connection to the facility's equipotential bonding network through dedicated grounding points with resistance values below 1 megohm to the common point ground. The lighting system must integrate with existing ESD infrastructure including conductive flooring, grounded work surfaces, and personnel grounding systems to maintain continuous static dissipation pathways. Power supply connections typically utilize standard 230V AC input with appropriate circuit protection, while control interfaces may include 0-10V dimming signals or digital protocols like DALI for integration with building automation systems managing cleanroom or manufacturing environments.

What safety ratings and environmental specifications apply to industrial ESD lighting systems?

Industrial ESD lighting systems typically achieve IP54 or higher ingress protection ratings to prevent dust accumulation and moisture ingress in manufacturing environments. Operating temperature ranges generally span from -20°C to +40°C ambient conditions, with some specialized models rated for extended ranges up to +50°C in high-temperature applications. The luminaires must demonstrate electrical safety compliance with Class I or Class II insulation according to IEC 60598-1, while photobiological safety ratings according to IEC 62471 ensure safe exposure levels for personnel working extended shifts under the lighting system.

What maintenance schedules and service life expectations apply to ESD lighting in industrial applications?

ESD lighting systems require quarterly visual inspections for dust accumulation and surface resistance verification using calibrated meters according to IEC 61340-2-3 protocols. LED-based systems like the Glamox i95 P series typically provide 50,000 hours service life with less than 10% lumen depreciation, while requiring annual cleaning with approved antistatic cleaning agents to maintain ESD properties. Comprehensive electrical safety testing including insulation resistance and earth continuity measurements should occur annually, with replacement recommended when light output falls below 70% of initial levels or when surface resistance measurements exceed the 10^12 ohm upper limit for ESD-safe materials.
